Extension Kitchen Fitout in Blackburn: Wren Kitchen Installation Case Study
A brand-new kitchen in a brand-new extension. The builder handed over the bare shell, and I took care of the complete internal fitout: plastering, painting, solid wood flooring and a full Wren kitchen installation, all one pair of hands from handover to finished room.

The Brief
The builder had completed the structural work: a new extension opening the original kitchen into one large open-plan space, with sliding doors onto the garden and a roof light. From handover, the customers wanted one tradesman to take it from bare shell to finished room rather than juggling separate plasterers, decorators, floor fitters and kitchen installers. That covered plastering, painting, solid wood flooring throughout, and the full installation of their new Wren kitchen including all appliances.
What the Job Involved
- Complete internal fitout of the new extension from the builder’s handover
- Plastering and preparation of walls, reveals and ceiling
- Painting throughout in a clean, bright finish
- Solid wood flooring laid across the full open-plan kitchen and dining space
- Full Wren kitchen installation: base and wall units, larder units and panelled end boards
- Central island with induction hob and stainless steel island extractor
- Integrated appliances fitted, including Bosch double oven, Bosch microwave, dishwasher and wine cooler
- Dark veined worktops with inset composite sink and drainer grooves
From Bare Room to Finished Kitchen

At handover the space was a blank shell: fresh plasterboard, exposed pipework and gas meter, and a subfloor of original boards and new plywood where the extension met the old kitchen. After plastering and painting, the new solid wood floor went down across the whole space, tying the original room and the new extension together with one consistent finish running right up to the sliding doors onto the garden.

With the room ready, the Wren units were built and set out: a run of base units under the window with the sink and dishwasher, tall housings for the double oven and microwave, and a central island carrying the induction hob, wine cooler and the stainless steel extractor overhead. Worktops, end panels and trims finished the job off.
